My title says it all. I was tempted to reinstall an old copy of Netscape 3 so that I could look at the book’s examples in the format for which the designs were intended. To be fair, the book does a reasonable job of telling one what the various buttons and menus on the DW interface do. But one would think that people buying a book on web-site design/building would want to know how to build a web site for today’s internet, not the one that existed in 1995. It’s a bit like having an instruction manual for building a Model T Ford. Yes, you’ll have a functioning automobile once you’ve finished the exercises, but it will look clunky and out of date and will operate ponderously. The half dozen or so DW books I’ve considered seem to have a habit of being out of date, but this one is the most fossilized I’ve yet to encounter. |
